Armistice Turtora was a local hero in the City of Fairfax known for her civic pride. For six decades, Mrs. Turtora was involved in her community, civic association, the City of Fairfax Commission on the Arts, the League of Women Voters and was instrumental in the establishment of the City of Fairfax’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board serving as its first chairman in 1969. Her parents named her Armistice because she was born on Armistice Day. She was a no nonsense, passionate, and outspoken person who successfully fought for open spaces in her city. Armistice Turtora In Her Own Words is a six minute documentary playing at the Fairfax Museum and Visitor Center.
